MEET Jamal Osman.
Your Phillips West Neighbor.
A longtime social worker and advocate, Jamal is running for Minneapolis City Council because there's more work ahead to build a better Minneapolis.
Jamal's journey into the world of City Hall politics was driven by a simple, yet profound belief — that progress is best made when we listen to all voices and act collectively.
A Deep Love of Family and community.
Jamal, along with his wife, Ilo, and their five children, call Phillips West home. They share a love for exploring our neighborhoods, visiting our local parks and being a part of their South Minneapolis community.
As a former refugee, Jamal's personal experiences — especially his time living in public housing as a 14-year-old immigrant — instilled in him a deep sense of empathy and underscored to him the importance of uplifting each other.
Jamal considers it a calling and an honor to serve his neighbors — and is proud to have earned their trust.
Housing and Mental Health advocacy
Before being elected in 2020, Jamal dedicated his professional life to advocating for housing and mental health services - working tirelessly with organizations like Common Bond Communities, and serving on the Board of Directors of the Phillips Community Clinic.
His focus has always been on ensuring that those in affordable and public housing had the same access to essential services as everyone else — and he has a reputation as a trusted advocate and champion of the most vulnerable in our community.
Jamal is a certified mental health trainer and takes pride in his past work empowering both youth and adults to recognize -- and destigmatize — mental health issues in our communities.
We Can Build A Brighter Future.
His unwavering commitment to creating stability and hope in the lives of those he serves is the driving force behind all his work on the City Council.
He's not a representative of big business or special interests — he's just a proud Minnesota DFLer who’s very honored to be the representative for ALL residents of Ward 6.
With his deep roots in the community — and a genuine desire to make Ward 6 a better place for everyone — Jamal Osman is your advocate for progress and your neighborhood champion in City Hall.
He still believes that together — we can build a brighter future for Ward 6 — and Minneapolis.
Let's re-elect Jamal Osman to City Council and support the Labor-endorsed, Ward 6 Democrat fighting for renters, workers, and neighborhoods.
