“Black Business Week is a celebration of our locally owned and run Black businesses, an opportunity to strengthen and amplify their voices in our community," said Council Member Jamal Osman. "I am honored to lead the East African Panel Discussion and Resource Fair, focusing on supporting businesses within our East African community and highlighting the resources available to them. If we are going to have strong neighborhoods, we are going to need strong businesses. It's crucial that we empower our entrepreneurs to thrive and create a more vibrant and equitable local economy.”

The East African Panel Discussion will kick off at 2:00 p.m., focusing on entrepreneurship among young, East African women. This engaging and inspiring panel will provide insights into the challenges and successes of starting and growing businesses in the community. Council Member Osman emphasizes the importance of providing platforms to uplift and celebrate the contributions of East African women in business.

At 4:00 p.m., the Resource Fair will begin, connecting participants to various community resources aimed at supporting businesses. Entrepreneurs, both established and aspiring, will have the opportunity to explore resources that can aid in the growth and success of their ventures. Council Member Osman believes that access to resources and support networks is vital in fostering a thriving business ecosystem.

Black Business Week is a city-wide initiative, organized to promote and uplift Black-owned businesses in Minneapolis. Throughout the week, residents and visitors are encouraged to support and celebrate the local Black business community. The week will feature a range of events, including workshops, networking opportunities, and community gatherings, culminating in the East African Panel Discussion and Resource Fair led by Council Member Osman.

“‘I have always been a staunch supporter of BIPOC and immigrant neighborhood businesses throughout Ward 6 and the City of Minneapolis," Council Member Osman affirmed. "This event is an important step in providing a platform for our East African entrepreneurs to thrive and succeed.
